Why SMPL?

I am excited to share with you Smpl, a ministry that creates faith-based summer camp curriculum for camp ministries and churches! I am an ordained United Methodist Pastor, who has served the local church, and has worked full time in camp ministry for that last 7 years.  Prior to serving Camp Occohannock as Director, I served a successful thriving camp in the Midwest.

Last year, my wife and I started Smpl for the purpose of providing engaging and meaningful summer camp curriculum.  As a Program Director, I saw firsthand the struggles of college age summer staff in communicating the gospel throughout the summer.  I experienced the inconsistencies week to week.   The staff often were bombarded with too many options to sift through or they had to reinvent the wheel for their particular context.  We knew that we needed something simple and practical that staff could pick up and use.  We wanted them to feel empowered in their ability to engage campers in meaningful conservations around scripture, and to lead thematic materials that would take the spiritual component of camp to the next level.

We want to ask you to give Smpl a chance and see how these materials can transform the camp experience.  The curriculum addresses  intergenerational camps, young children, and youth all the way up to high school.  We have special system built within our materials to make them accessible for various ages, as well as, different modes for sharing the gospel like skits, music, worship experiences, sacred conversations, and much, much more.

The conversations are easily adapted for different ages based on our color code system.  That means that staff don’t have learn multiple age lessons, but need to follow the code so that they can meet the needs of their campers.   Each of our curriculums have been tested through a summer season with staff, and reevaluated after a season for the purpose of providing the best quality curriculum possible.
